The Persisters Issue – Award Winning Cover Photography
Geez Magazine
The cover of Geez Magazine’s Persisters issue, which focused on strong female voices and modern feminism, featured performance artist Shawna Dempsey. The magazine’s guest editor and art director wanted the magazine to look, at first glance, like a fashion magazine. When readers would look closer, they’d discover the fun, quirky personality in Shawna’s expression and would be intrigued to read on. The concept played into the greater theme that strong, modern women are more than meets the eye. This issue of the magazine won the Manitoba Magazine Awards 1st place for Best Cover Photography in 2014.
